Critical Incident at Long Swamp
Phylidonyris novaehollandiae
The bird is around 18 cm (7.1 in) long and is mainly black, with a white iris, white facial tufts and yellow margins on its wing and tail feathers. It is a very active bird and rarely sits long enough to give an extended view. When danger approaches a New Holland honeyeater, such as a bird of prey, a group of honeyeaters will form together and give a warning call.

Porphyrio melanotus
Australasian swamphen are long-legged birds, standing about 51 cm tall, with dark plumage, black upper-parts, and a contrasting white undertail. They have a large, bright red bill and an expanded frontal shield that extends from their culmen, giving them a distinctive appearance. Their throat and breast are purple, contributing to their striking colour pattern. Variations exist across subspecies, with some having greener or bluer upper-parts or smaller body sizes depending on the region.
